Assessment Services
Psychological and cognitive assessments allow for a holistic, thoughtful understanding of a person’s emotional and cognitive processes. Together, we can uncover the patterns and difficulties that are affecting your life, so you can move forward toward your personal, professional, academic, or therapeutic goals.
A common misconception about psychological testing is that its sole purpose is to identify diagnoses. While diagnoses can be incredibly helpful and important, we believe that the power of psychological and cognitive testing is not just found in diagnostic conclusions, but in the meaningful descriptions and personalized recommendations which accompany them. Our goal is to provide you with answers to the questions that are holding you back, so you can move forward feeling empowered to make productive changes in your life.
CAS offers different kinds of assessments that can reveal psychological and cognitive conditions that may be getting in your way. Depending on the nature of your difficulties, different tests may suit your needs.
Psychological Assessments
If you have noticed changes in your mood, reactions to others, or behavior, it could be a sign that there is an underlying psychological condition that is affecting you. Psychological testing can help identify the emotional and relational patterns that are working beneath the surface, tying together test results with the unique narrative of your life. Psychological testing can also be helpful for individuals who are currently in psychotherapeutic treatment but find that their work with their therapist is “stuck” or unable to move forward. We perform evaluations for depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, trauma-related disorders, psychosis, personality disorders, and other psychological diagnoses.
Cognitive Assessments
If you find yourself unable to focus on tasks when you need to, feeling “slow” or disorganized when you try to think, or struggling to keep up in academic or professional settings compared to your peers, a cognitive health assessment can help. Cognitive and academic evaluations help to identify strengths and weaknesses that you experience in your attention, memory functioning, intellectual abilities, and learning. They can help identify the reasons you may be struggling at work or school and offer solutions to maximize your performance. We perform evaluations for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), specific learning disabilities, and intellectual disabilities. We also offer specific recommendations that may assist you in pursuing academic and work accommodations.
Combined Assessments
We take pride in our ability to integrate findings from both psychological and cognitive / academic evaluations to paint a cohesive picture of how you work. We put deep thought, care, and consideration into your unique case to provide insight into your overall functioning, leaving you with relevant diagnoses, descriptions of your cognitive and emotional patterns, and recommendations that will help you to move forward.

Your assessment appointment will be scheduled at the conclusion of your intake or referrals to alternate services may be provided if our Assessment Program Coordinator determines that such referrals may better meet your needs. Standard deductibles, copays and coinsurances, as required by your insurance policy for outpatient mental health visits, will apply to this intake appointment.
Insurance & Fees
Using Insurance: Our practice accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna and certain United Healthcare Student Resources insurance plans as in-network providers for assessment services. If you have one of these insurance policies, we will check your insurance benefits prior to scheduling your assessment intake. Insurance companies require that clients meet specific medical necessity criteria for assessment services, so information will be collected during the intake to help your insurance company determine if you meet this criteria. Our practice cannot determine if you meet medical necessity criteria for your specific policy as your insurance company reserves the right to make this determination. If your insurance policy requires preauthorization for assessment services, information collected at the intake will be submitted to your insurance company for preauthorization approval prior to scheduling your assessment appointment. If your insurance company does not require preauthorization for assessment services, it may still request evidence of medical necessity after assessment services have been provided.
If you have an insurance policy with out-of-network benefits, we can provide you with an invoice to submit to your insurance company, as it may provide partial reimbursement for services, but we are unable to bill your insurance company for assessment services, so our self-pay arrangement would apply.
